Hmph. They let just about anyone in. Which is a huge problem. A ton of the freshmen are airhead film or fashion kids who think they're going to be the next Martin Scorsese or the next Cindy Crawford.

This is what NEEDS to be change--> Low quality students are being accepted, and are 'babied' through out the education process (thus holding quality students down).

I sent in the standard application and a portolio of electronic slides. To be honest, I've asked around and I have not heard of a single person who was rejected when they sent in their application (maybe implying they just moved on). My thought is that it is pretty easy to get into the school. They didn't even consider the portfolio in the application, but sent it over to be evaluated for scholarship, and I was awarded a $20,000 scholarship ($5,000 per year). They give out a few of those each year in various ammounts, 5, 10, 20, and i think there's a 30 in there before the full tution ride.

Assuming you get accepted, plan on your first year of school being more expensive as far as books and supplies are concerned. You'll have expensive art history survey books, paintbrushes, specific pencils and types of paints to buy. If you already have those, bring them, but don't be surprised if you're told you can't use them. If you don't have them, don't buy them before classes because the teachers have specific lists of what they want students to use; alizeran crimson or ultramarine blue or something, and if you get the wrong stuff, they may mark you down on the exercises.

Although they do not require a portfolio if you have one you should submit it. And if you don't have one or don't feel like your is very good don't worry about it, unlike some art schools that expect you to know everything prior to starting SCAD welcomes you even if you haven't had great art teachers in high school. I didn't have one, but I know a lot of people that did and it helped them if they did not have a good SAT/ACT score. The other thing I would recommend is to go visit. You need to make up your own mind, suggestions from other people are great, but until you see it for yourself you will never truly be able to make an informed decision. Also talk to as many people as possible when you are there and spend a few days in Savannah check out the things that are not on the SCAD tour. See if you feel comfortable. You are talking about spending 4 years in this city, isn't that worth at least 48 hours of your time?
